BALL’S BOYS BOUNCE BACK BY BATTERING BROCKENHURST
After a difficult week losing in the Play-Off Final and Hampshire Cup Final on penalties, AFC Totton returned to winning ways by thrashing Brockenhurst 5-0 in the Southampton Senior Cup Semi-Final.
The Stags took a while to get going in the first half, but eventually broke the deadlock with another Tony LEE free-kick as the striker powered an excellent drive low into the corner on the stroke of half-time.
Evidently, that settled some nerves for the second period as Totton doubled their lead with a well-crafted goal which saw Leon Maloney measure a perfectly weighted pass to tee up Ethan TAYLOR, who delicately chipped the goalkeeper from close range.
Taylor came close to scoring another in what has proved to be a prolific 2024 for the winger, but saw his left-footed effort crash against the crossbar as the score remained 2-0
Totton’s pressure and endeavour was again rewarded later on, however, as Matty BURROWS made it three in the 72nd minute, striking a low shot into the far corner from the right of the 18-yard box after a clever short corner routine.
Scott RENDELL then found a pocket of space in the box before directing a clever header beyond ex-Stag Amadeusz Skrzyniarz.
Scott RENDELL continued to add to another fine goalscoring season, as the 37-year-old scored another with a composed finish beyond the goalkeeper.
AFC Totton will face Hythe & Dibden in the final of the competition at the Snows Stadium on Saturday 18 May 2024.
