LEE HEADS STAGS INTO NEXT ROUND AS MAGPIES FLY OUT OF FA TROPHY

TONY LEE SCORED THE ONLY GOAL of the game, converting a thundering header from the back-post from a Tom Blair cross.

Controversy struck after an hour into the match, with both The Stags and The Magpies receiving red cards for an off the ball altercation.

The hosts started the game on the front foot, as they piled pressure onto their opponents. Blair was at the heart of Totton’s attacks, creating multiple dangerous chances.

The Stags made a quick start to the second half, and were rewarded for their efforts. Another superb Blair cross was met by Lee at the back-post, who rifled his header into the corner of Benfield’s goal.

Shortly after the opener, Ethan Taylor had a wonderful opportunity to double the hosts’ advantage. An exquisite first touch allowed Taylor to get through one-on-one with Benfield, who produced a fine save to keep it out.

Blair was handed his second yellow card for a foul on Shaquille Gwengwe, sending him flying over the advertising boards. Gwengwe retaliated and deservedly received a straight red card.

The Magpies dominated proceedings in the last half-hour, but resolute and compact defending ensured the away side didn’t find a way through.

AFC Totton’s 1-0 win over Dorchester Town ensure the home side are in the hat for Round 2 of the FA Trophy.
