TWO-GOAL TONY PLUNDERS THE POINTS IN PLYMOUTH
A FIRST-HALF BRACE from Tony Lee saw AFC Totton take all three points from their midweek mission to Devon, at struggling Plymouth Parkway's Bolitho Park.
Lee wasted no time in putting The Stags ahead in the first minute, by which time they had already had a penalty claim turned down for a trip on Ash Clarke. Tom Blair's right-wing corner found Tony LEE, who steered the ball past Plymouth goalkeeper Harrison Lee with a 'header' that appeared to come off his face rather than his forehead.
Plymouth came back into the game in terms of possession but lacked a cutting edge, for which they paid the price when Totton's No.18 pounced to strike again from another corner six minutes before the break. This time, Lee got a firm header on Blair's delivery but his namesake in the Parkway goal parried at the top-right corner. The ball fell back to Tony LEE who controlled on his chest and fired high into the net to double Totton's lead.
Five minutes into the second half, Plymouth caught Totton napping when the visitors conceded a free-kick in the centre-circle. A quickly taken kick sent Frankie Monk scampering to the right-wing byline; Josh Gould dived full-length to try and intercept the cross, but he could only divert the ball to Dylan JONES who converted into the empty net.
Rain affected the quality of the game throughout, especially during the second half when the downpour became particularly heavy. Plymouth saw more possession and seemed to gain more territory as the match wore on, but Totton were defensively solid, limiting their opponents to a few speculative long shots, despite some sterling work from Jones on their left wing to keep Luke Bennett honest at right-back, as The Stags held on to secure the points before setting off on their long journey home.
