NOTHING BETWEEN THEM: Sam Magri and Scott Rendell (pictured centre-left and centre-right, respectively) tied for the Supporters' Player of the Year Award. AFC Totton Chairman Stephen Snow (left) and Manager Jimmy Ball (right) complete the quartet.

FOOTBALL MIGHT BE A YOUNG MAN’S GAME but the vote for the AFC Totton Supporters’ Player of the Year 2023/24 ended in a two-way tie between a pair of veterans with a combined age of 67.

Defender Sam Magri and centre-forward Scott Rendell shared the award that was voted for by ballot among match-going supporters over the course of the last month of the season.

Sam Magri joined the club during the close season last summer and made his Stags debut as a substitute at Harrow Borough on the opening day of the 2023/24 campaign. He weighed in with three goals, including a long-range stunner in the 1-1 home draw against Gosport Borough in January.

Scott Rendell continued his second season as a Stag where he left off the first, by scoring goals by the hatful. The Sunburnt Assassin struck four hat-tricks during the course of the campaign, most recently spoiling Dorchester Town’s final home game of the season with three of the Stags’ four goals in a 4-0 away win. Including his brace against Brockenhurst in the Semi-Final of the SDFA Southampton Senior Cup on Tuesday evening, Rendell will go into Saturday’s Final on 33 goals for the season in all competitions, with his total AFC Totton club tally currently on 69.
