HEADWAY SOUTHAMPTON AND WEST SUSSEX
IMPROVING LIFE AFTER BRAIN INJURY
EVERY 90 SECONDS someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) from a variety of causes, e.g. falls, road-accidents, trauma to the head, tumours, and strokes.
An ABI can happen to anyone at any time in their life and every ABI is different. Coming to terms with the effects for individuals, their families, friends and carers can be very distressing and difficult. For some, their injury is hidden to an extent, so it is easy for them and their families to become isolated.
Our mission at Headway is to improve the lives and promote the independence of ABI survivors. We provide support and advice to their families and carers, and raise awareness of the life-changing effects of brain injury.
Various activities of rehabilitation support are delivered from the Day Centre in Totton, online and across the community to reach as many survivors as possible.
Activities are provided through one-to-ones and in group settings, which greatly help improve cognitive, behavioural, and emotional issues, communication skills, social isolation and physical recovery to help people achieve the level of independence required to carry out daily tasks.
“Headway has helped me get through things in my life that I have struggled with and has helped me be more confident. They have also helped me to learn coping strategies for my life.”
