THE STAGS TAKE ON CHERTSEY TOWN in what is set to be another enthralling encounter at the Snows Stadium.

Last time out Totton scraped past Swindon Supermarine, winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Charlie Austin and Tom Blair. The talking point was the second yellow card given to Luke Bennett, reducing the home side to ten men but we hung on despite fierce pressure from ‘Marine.

CHERTSEY TOWN – THEIR SEASON SO FAR:

Having been promoted into this division as Isthmian League South Central Division Champions, Chertsey have had an up-and-down season so far, sitting in eighth place with 24 points from 17 games.

The Curfews kicked-off by winning 4-1 at home to Hungerford Town. They then experienced mixed results losing to Havant & Waterlooville, winning against Tiverton Town, drawing with Frome Town and losing to Walton & Hersham before the Emirates FA Cup rolled around.

They made progress by beating Raynes Park Vale. However, their league form continued to be inconsistent with a drawing against Winchester City. Chertsey beat Hanwell Town in Second Round Qualifying but when they returned to league action, they lost to Dorchester Town and drew to Bracknell Town.

Back-to-back cup wins followed with a 3-2 win success over Ashford United in Third Round Qualifying for the FA Cup and via a penalty shoot-out win against Billericay Town at the same stage of the Isuzu FA Trophy. The FA Cup provided a big Fourth Round Qualifying tie against National League side Sutton United at The Curfews’ Alwyns Lane ground in Surrey, in which they found themselves on the wrong end of 1-3 defeat.

Chertsey took seven points from a possible nine in their next three games, before they travelled to Uxbridge the First Round Proper of the FA Trophy and pulled off an impressive 3-0 victory, and they maintained their good form with a win in the Surrey Senior Cup. One win and one defeat followed in the league before a visit to Bath City in the Second Round of the FA Trophy, when they caused an upset with a 3-2 win.

In their last three outings, Chertsey suffered consecutive home defeats to Gosport Borough and the league leaders Merthyr Town, but they come to the Snows Stadium on the back of a 3-2 away win at Taunton Town at the weekend, courtesy of a Jack Mazzone hat-trick that took his tally of league goals for the season to 17, just three goals behind the leading scorer Ricardo Rees of Merthyr. If Mazzone’s name sounds familiar, it may be because he scored against The Stags for Horsham in the FA Trophy last season.
