TOTTON HOST TIVVY on Saturday, for Matchday#39 of the 2024/25 season.

Last time out on Tuesday night, a 10-man Totton side came away with a point from Taunton Town in Somerset. Sam Magri scored his third penalty goal in the space of a month, to take his overall season’s tally of goals to five.

TIVERTON – THEIR SEASON SO FAR:
The Gold Army began the season in poor fashion, losing 0-6 at Merthyr Town and failing to win any of their subsequent six games, with one draw and five defeats, including a 0-3 loss to Wimborne Town in First Round Qualifying for the Emirates FA Cup.

Tiverton finally recorded their first win of the campaign away to Frome Town, and followed that up with a home win against Winchester City, beating teams around them in the Southern League Premier Division South table. But when playing against sides from the top end of the table, they lost to Gloucester City and were dumped out of the Isuzu FA Trophy via a penalty shoot-out at the hands of Dorchester Town.

Two big away losses to Swindon Supermarine and Wimborne Town came before a 3-3 draw with Sholing and then a 3-1 win against Poole Town. In their next five games, Tivvy picked up two wins, one draw and two defeats, before they entertained AFC Totton at the Ian Moorcroft Stadium shortly before Christmas in a match won for The Stags by a late Tom Blair goal.

Tiverton then went seven games without a win, drawing three and losing four. They ended that run by beating Wimborne by a single goal. But more inconsistency followed, with a solitary win sandwiched between four defeats. However, Tiverton’s form has improved of late, keeping them very much in the relegation dogfight. Of their last six games, Tiverton have won three, drew two and lost just once, leaving them in 19th place – the highest of the relegation slots – but with only one points separating them from the three teams hovering immediately above the drop zone; Poole Town, Swindon Supermarine and Basingstoke Town.

IN THE REVERSE FIXTURE…

Tom Blair’s injury-time winner gave AFC Totton a valuable away win from a scrappy affair in Devon.

The 57th-minute dismissal of Tiverton’s Toby Down for a second bookable offence – a foul on Tony Lee, when the referee might well have allowed Taylor to play on and finish – handed The Stags a welcome numerical advantage, which they huffed and puffed to exploit while Tiverton appeared content to play out a goalless draw.

The introductions of winger Tom Blair and centre-forward Scott Rendell added new impetus, and although it took until stoppage time, Totton eventually broke through the yellow-and-black cordon with a suitably scrambled winner.

Lee hurled the ball into play from the left-wing touchline. Roddy Collins flicked on at the near post and Rendell stretched to try and head home at the far; the ball fell to the right of the six-yard box where Tom BLAIR poked past goalkeeper Joe Duncan.

Acrimony had been building between the two sides throughout the second half, and the referee dished out a flurry of yellow cards before the end, but Totton held on to win.

Full-Time: TIVERTON TOWN 0-1 AFC TOTTON
