MINE'S MADE OF GOLD: Aaron Phipps MBE presents the award for Southern League Div.1 South Club of the Month to Adam Tomasso.
Aaron Phipps MBE, a member of the Great Britain wheelchair rugby team that won the Gold Medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo last summer, attended AFC Totton’s match against rivals Sholing on Easter Monday.
As well as cheering on his local team in their bid to claim a promotion play-off spot, the Totton resident was there to present Adam Tomasso - standing-in as team captain in the absence of suspended duo Harry Medway and Ben Jefford - with both the February and October awards for the Pitching In Southern League Div.1 South Club of the Month, prior to kick-off.
The prize is given to the team with the best record during the calendar month, based on results in the league and selected cup competitions.
In October, Totton followed up their 6-0 thrashing of Barnstaple Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the Buildbase FA Trophy with a 4-1 win at Sholing in the Southern League Challenge Cup, before thumping Barum again by a scoreline of 8-1 in a league match at their own Mill Road ground. A two-week break followed, during which Stephen Snow was installed as the new Club Chairman and the management duo of Glenn Howes and James Wood made the switch to Southern League Premier Dorchester Town, immediately returning to the Snows Stadium with the Magpies to be knocked out of the FA Trophy courtesy of goals from Hisham Kasimu and Ethan Taylor.
Despite a downturn in form during December and January, the Stags began February with an impressive 2-0 away win at title challengers Frome Town, then drew 0-0 at home to a then-resurgent Barnstaple - no thanks to Owen Howe's last-second goalline clearance, during his brief stint with Barum before returning to Bristol Manor Farm. And Totton completed the month with a 2-0 home success against Willand Rovers.
