World Mental Health Day 2024_logo.pngTHURSDAY 10 OCTOBER is World Mental Health Day – a day dedicated to discussing mental health and demonstrating its importance.

Mental health awareness, however, is crucial every day. Sometimes signs of struggle can be obvious but at other times, they can be much harder to spot which is why it is vital to listen and check in on colleagues, friends and family members.

As a club – from directors, staff, players and supporters – we all face different challenges at times. We are united in our commitment to mental health and well-being, fostering a supportive community for all.

With this On the Same Page mindset, we collaborated with our videographer, Jon Ashworth from Side of the World, to produce a video exploring the close relationship between fans, players and staff of a non-league football club from a mental health perspective. Our goal is to provide details of resources and encourage individuals to take the crucial first steps towards seeking help, if needed.

Throughout the film, we look at how mental health can affect everyone in the football community.

On the Same Page features former Premier League star and AFC Totton’s current No.11, Charlie Austin, and AFC Totton supporter, Adi Rose, both highlighting personal insights and the significance of taking that crucial ‘first step’ towards seeking help and how it played a pivotal role in their journey.

The film also introduces Steph Axon, Team Manager from the 111 Mental Health Triage Service, who shares insights around signs of mental health and resources for getting support.

We hope you will take five minutes to watch this film, which will be shown on our screens and shared across our social media channels, emphasising the importance of mental health awareness and the power of coming together to support one another.

You will find literature from supporting organisations on the Community Boards and our social media channels.

I’m here to Listen …

Across the Community of AFC Totton, we have many ears to listen out for each other. With many thanks to everyone who contributed to the making of this film.
