Teenaged centre-forward, Remus Nixon was born in Poole, Dorset. He owes his unusual first name to his Finnish mother, who has confirmed to him that her choice of the name was inspired by the Roman myth of Romulus & Remus, which tells of the foundation of the city of Rome and of the Roman Kingdom (as depicted in the club badge of AS Roma).
As a younger teenager, the real-life Remus was involved with Hamworthy Recreation, turning out for their U18s and Reserve teams. In those days, he often operated from the left wing or as an attacking midfielder. But as he grew into the 6’2” inch frame that he inhabits today, it soon became apparent that he was destined to be a No.9. He broke through into men’s football with Hamworthy United last season, scoring five goals in 17 appearances to help The Hammers achieve a third-place finish in their first ever season at Step 4.
Remus featured as a late substitute in both Hamworthy’s 3-0 home win over Evesham United in the Promotion Play-Off Semi-Final and the 0-2 defeat in the Final at The Imperial Homes Stadium that saw Sholing join The Stags in the Southern League Premier Division South for the current term. But asked to identify the highlight of his fledgling football career to date, Remus picks his two-goal display in a narrow 3-4 stoppage-time Dorset Senior Cup Semi-Final defeat to Weymouth in December 2022.
Hamworthy United’s players were told of the club’s intention to withdraw from the Southern League when they turned up for a routine training session in early-October 2023, and they were all advised to consider themselves free agents and to find new clubs. Remus was already on Jimmy Ball's, so Remus was invited to train with the club before signing on a dual-registration basis with Totton & Eling.
The young centre-forward announced his arrival with the opening goal in The Millers’ 3-2 away win at Clanfield in the Wessex League Division One on Saturday 14 October. Three days later, he made his AFC Totton debut as a substitute in the goalless draw at Sholing, replacing Scott Rendell who had taken a knock.
His first AFC Totton goal came in the 5-0 home win over Royal Navy FA in the Quarter-Finals of the Servio Hampshire Senior Cup in February 2024.
