Run of Form
AFC Totton come into the game after a recent 2-0 road defeat to Dover Athletic in the league. They will look to turn their fortunes around and replicate their previous win when they beat Folland Sports 5-2 in the Southampton Senior Cup at home. The Stags are sat a point above the relegation zone in 20th place.
As for Basingstoke Town, the Stoke are winless in their last six games, recording three losses and three draws. The draws came in the league against Gloucester and Gosport, while an FA Cup draw with AFC Stoneham led to a replay in which they were beaten. This was followed by a defeat to Poole Town in the FA Trophy and a league loss to Uxbridge. Their difficult run of form leaves Basingstoke 17th in the Southern League Premier Division South.
Implications of the Result
For both teams, the fixture not only offers the chance to progress into the next round of the Hampshire Senior Cup but also provides an opportunity to return to winning ways.
For Totton, a victory would provide a welcome boost ahead of their huge league clash with Walton & Hersham the following week, a fixture that could have a significant impact on both sides' ambitions of climbing the table.
The same applies to Basingstoke, as a win would give them momentum heading into their meeting with fellow Southern League Premier Division South strugglers Malvern Town.
Familiar Faces
The fixture also sees two Basingstoke Town players face their former club, with Ben Jefford and Christos Papakonstantinou lining up against AFC Totton.
Christos Papakonstantinou joined AFC Totton in the summer of 2018 before departing in the summer of 2021 to sign for Dorchester Town.
Ben Jefford enjoyed two spells with the Stags. His first came between the summers of 2021 and 2023 before joining Bashley FC. He returned to AFC Totton in the summer of 2024, spending one season at the Snows Stadium before joining his current club, Basingstoke Town.
